So, I live in Atlanta 5 miles from the CNN Center actually. You never really think of a tornado going through a metro area but it happened Friday night. Actually I was at friends house for dinner, we were sitting around drinking wine a talking. It had started to rain and even hail and someone said do you hear that? We are like hear what, oh yeah my friends say who live at the house, that's marta (atlanta's poor excuse for mass transit). "I don't know it sounds like a tornado to me" (this girl is from Indiana). "No, no... it's just the train". So we all stand up with our wine and open the window and watch it hail outside. This house happens to be about 1.5-2 miles from Cabbagetown which is an historic area of Atlanta that was heavily hit by the tornado. Yes it was a tornado we heard... it really does sound like a train. It's amazing the thousands of people that were in the path of the tornado in downtown Atlanta and not one person lost their life. They next day another tornado went through Floyd county which is in North Georgia a very rual area and two people lost their lives. You just never know. I admit yesterday we were keeping a close watch on the storms, our county was under a tornado warning and the sirens were going off. We were ready to head to the basement at any moment. We had our passports, our laptops, our dog, and my cat Francis' ashes. Anyone who knows me knows how important that cat was to me. Oh, and my camera of course. Fortunately no tornado came in our direct path, but many other people were not as lucky. Went driving around a little yesterday after the storms, trying to stay out of the way of the clean up crews, GA power workers, etc. but took a few snapshots of some of the damage. We had power the whole time (amazing because we almost always loose power in bad storms) but just got our internet back this evening. Here are a few of the snaps.
